Synopsis
Cast out by their village after the death of their mother, Keia turns to a group of armed revolutionaries promising community, belonging, and found family in exchange for unconditional loyalty -- only, that group happens to be the infamous terrorist organization known as Eden.
The organization gives Keia a task: find and assassinate Cassius Flores, the son of the country's most powerful business oligarch. However, in finding and getting to know Cassius, Keia realizes that community and belonging are not transactional, and must choose between staying blindly loyal to a cause they never believed in, or risking their life for the community they had been looking for all along.
GENRE: Contemporary Fantasy
DEMOGRAPHIC: YA/18+
PRODUCTION GOAL: 3D limited series

Setting
Set in a world similar to our Earth, but in which creatures that only exist as a fantasy to us are very much real. All kinds of creatures live alongside humans in a society designed to support all life forms. However, as tends to happen when enough voices from different backgrounds are present, things are becoming restless. In Agnacia, one of the world's most powerful regions, discontent with the current political landscape is bubbling to the surface. Power-hungry aristocrats become bolder and bolder with their choices, and a notorious terrorist group known as Eden becomes bolder and bolder with their attacks.
Pitch Project
Created as part of a concept art program in 2025, here is the first collection of finalized artwork for this project. Since then, lots of elements have been changed and many parts of the story have been tweaked, but this collection of artwork is the first proper concept art for Thicker Than Blood.

Keia

Keia

Found in a stream as a newborn, Keia was viewed as a bad omen their entire life. They grew up alienated from the other villagers, with only their adoptive mother, Ariadne, to turn to for support. After her death, Keia joins an organization that promises a close-knit, accepting family – only, this organization is one of the world's most notorious terrorist groups, Eden.
During the story, Keia is enlisted to assassinate Cassius, the son of a very powerful businessman with a strong political influence. Upon getting to know Cassius in order to get close enough to assassinate him, Keia discovers that the narrative that Eden has been telling them their entire life isn't entirely true, and they must choose between blind loyalty or the actual belonging they wanted all along.

Keia

Ellison

Cassius

Cassius is to one day become head of his family and manage their business and strong sociopolitical influence. His father Ellison, current head of the family, is in the midst of making quite a controversial name for the family by using their business money to serve his own interests, and Cassius isn't so sure if he wants to inherit this sort of pressure, responsibility, and reputation. Unfortunately, Cassius is the most qualified Flores to inherit the business and lead the family, having been prepared for this role his entire life, so he's forced to get along with his household – if only on the surface.
Cassius enrolls in one of the world's most prestigious universities in the hopes to avoid his worsening relationship with his future and bring pride and success to his name in other ways. He doesn’t agree with many of his family’s decisions, and wishes to forge his own path in his own way. Unbeknownst to him, this decision to run from his supposed fate changes the entire course of his life.

Ellison

Ellison

Cassius' father and the current head of the Flores family. More information TBA.

Nathaniel

Ellison

Cassius' father and the current head of the Flores family. More information TBA.

Nathaniel

Nathaniel

Somewhat infamous throughout his school, Nathaniel is a very polarizing person. He is known for his brusque personality and inability to hold a roommate or class for longer than two months. However, despite a not-so-appealing first impression, Nathaniel is actually a very empathetic person. Over the years, he has put up lots of walls to protect himself—the result of a car accident affiliated with the terrorist group Eden. This disastrous event scattered what was left of his family and was the catalyst for him moving across the continent, to where he meets the rest of the cast.
Although more of an introvert, Nathaniel spends a lot of his free time around others, chasing distractions and new interests so as to not have to face his past. He doesn’t reveal much about himself to those who only know him superficially, but deep down he is an incredibly solid, loyal, and caring person… it’s just a matter of actually getting to know him first.

Cassius

Heidi

A skilled fighter and Keia's very first friend, Heidi is a very important part of Eden, resting high up in the ranks. She's been there since she was a young child and developed a very wide skillset -- especially when dealing with other people. She can extract information from her target in half the time as anyone else, or manoeuvre even the most stoic into giving her what she needs. Because of this, Eden has entrusted her to execute part of their assassination plot. Her bosses lean on her for many of the most important tasks, and, because of her strong loyalty, she always delivers.
Heidi ends up forming a very strong bond with Keia as they are some of the only ones of their rare species left. She loves them strongly but feelings between the two are complicated, especially with the weight of Agnacia's political scene on their shoulders.

Heidi

Heidi

A skilled fighter and respected member of Eden, Heidi has known Keia since they were teenagers and was the one who first recruited them. Heidi has been with Eden since she was a young child and has developed a wide skillset not overlooked by her higher-ups. She is approachable but stoic, goal-oriented but not reckless, and is able to easily recognize peoples’ weaknesses and desires in order to extract information from them. Her higher-ups lean on her for many of the most important tasks, and she always delivers without fail.
Heidi is Keia’s very first friend, despite having met when they were eighteen and sixteen respectively. Rubinae are rare in today’s day and age, and so to meet another of the same species, even if Keia was only a half-blood, immediately gave them a special place in Heidi’s heart. Despite everything, years later, that special place has refused to budge, but feelings between the two are complicated and Heidi can’t risk them getting in the way of the job she has to do. Eden gave her a home when she had nothing left, and so she must put it above all else.

Jasmine

Jasmine

Jasmine is a bubbly young woman working for her parents’ weaponsmithing business. Originally born in Calisty, Jasmine has travelled the world and visited every single region throughout her life thanks to the nomadic nature of the business, working one-on-one with clients no matter where they are located. Jasmine has a unique and unusually wise outlook on life for her age, thanks to all her different experiences, which she loves to share with others through friendly and upbeat conversation.
Jasmine loves her family and is grateful for the job security, but she doesn’t enjoy the lack of permanence she feels about any given place. The constant business travel uproots any life she might be able to make for herself and leaves her relationships feeling hollow. When Jasmine meets the rest of the cast at university, it’s the first time in a long time that she has been able to settle down in one spot for longer than a year, and she’s determined to make the most of it. Through them, Jasmine is finally able to understand what it’s like to find a home in a group of people.

Thicker Than Blood has been in the works since 2021, back when it was only a sketchbook page with Keia's character design on it. Since then, the story has developed, evolved, and definitely changed, and it couldn't have come as far as it did without the small community of people who kept asking about it. Thanks to a handful of people in a little corner of the internet, this story was able to make it out of the sketchbook and into the world, where it continues to find people who resonate with it. Thank you deeply to everyone who has shown interest in the project thus far, and a warm welcome to those just beginning to discover it.
